Application of Increment-Decrement Life Tables to Analyze Cause of Death Elimination in Life Expectancy in Selected States of India

Application of increment-decrement life table helps in examinining the cause of death elimination in life expectancy. One get an idea about the gain in life expectancy if one able to control a particular disease. The present paper aims to construct such a life table using the data available from Cause of Death Statistics in Sample Registration System (SRS), Registrar General, India, in four selected states of India namely, Maharashtra, Orissa, Tamil Nadu and Uttar Pradesh. The net gain in life expectancy at birth is found to be higher among females than males in all the four states. Life tables are adjusted for the impact of differential risks of dying from other causes. The study is expected to shed light on the estimation of disease burden in population which is essential for setting up priorities for national health programmes.
