This study is planned to examine the rich-poor gap in infant and under 5 mortality in urban India using the data from three rounds of National Family Health Survey. A poverty index based on economic proxies of households has been computed separately for urban India and classified the population into five quintiles. Where the first quintile has been considered as poor and last quintile is as rich. To examine the inequalities in outcome variables rich-poor ratio is calculated. For further analysis Cox model has been used to understand the determinants of outcome variables. Moreover the decomposition analysis has been carried out to understand the contribution of socioeconomic and demographic factors in infant and under 5 mortality. Preliminary results report higher inequality in infant and under 5 mortality across the economic groups in country. Moreover infant and under 5 mortality are nearly thrice higher among poorest quintiles than the richest quintile.
